Associated Supermarket Group (ASG) was founded in 1939 as Queens Food Dealers to support small, independent grocers. In 1954, the organization became Associated Food Stores, marking the start of its expansion. By 1987, the Compare Foods supermarket banner was added, further strengthening its presence in the industry.
In 2012, AUA Private Equity acquired Associated Food Stores, and by 2014, the company expanded its portfolio with the addition of Met Food and Pioneer supermarket banners. In 2015, Associated Food Stores officially rebranded as Associated Supermarket Group (ASG), ushering in a new era of innovation. The company introduced its Avenue A private label in 2017 and launched the ASG Supermarket Academy in 2019 to support the growth of independent grocers.
In December 2020, ASG was acquired by its senior management team, Joe Garcia and Zulema Wiscovitch, further strengthening its commitment to independent supermarkets and expanding its services. Today, ASG proudly serves supermarkets across the Northeast and mid-Atlantic regions, providing the resources and expertise to help independent grocers compete and thrive in an ever-evolving market.
